4ocean received the SURFER Magazine “Agent of Change” at the 48thAnnual SURFER Awards held in Oahu, Hawaii. The award is given to a group or individual who uses surfing to better the lives of others.

Surfers Andrew Cooper and Alex Schulze launched sustainability company 4ocean in January 2017, just a few short years after a surfing trip to Bali gave them the insights into the problem of plastic and trash littering our oceans and waterways.

To date, 4ocean has already pulled over 2.3 million pounds of trash. The company funds its efforts through the sale of post-consumer recycled bracelets, reusable bottles and cleanup combos. Each purchase removes a minimum of one pound of trash from oceans and coastlines.

4ocean’s business model is creating new, more sustainable economies around the world by paying fisherman to collect plastic and trash from the ocean instead of fish. It’s changing the way people think about the problem of plastic pollution.

4ocean gives ocean plastic a monetary value while incentivizing people all over the world to change their behaviour.
