Getting your morning routine in order can be hard. If you start the day the right way, it means you’ll kill it for the rest of the day.
It’s much easier said than done, and so many guys keep doing the same wrong things first thing in the morning that completely screws up the whole day.
Many of us, myself included hear the horrible sound of the alarm and hit the snooze. Waking in the morning sucks, especially if the day ahead is something you’re not looking forward to.
This is the first thing you do when you wake in the morning. You’ve not done anything at all, apart from rolling over to hit that button. This means that without even realizing you’ve started the day with failure.
Your mindset needs to be on point, and approaching the day with a lazy attitude can be really demotivating. And you’re not even out of bed yet.
When the alarm rings, adjust your mindset. It’s probably one of the hardest things you can do. But building a habit of waking up immediately gives you a positive attitude to the day, and you’ve accomplished something extremely hard within your first waking moments.
The rest of your day will be a breeze now that you’ve achieved something within seconds.
Your phone is not helpful
It’s so damn easy to roll over and just pick your phone up in bed. I got into a terrible habit of doing this. Half an hour later and you’re still looking at something completely useless on your phone, usually social media.
By the time you’ve scrolled through emails, social feeds, and WhatsApp messages, you’ve barely got any time left before you need to get ready for the day. This small habit can be brutal on the day.
An easy way to get that fixed is to check your phone while eating breakfast. Once you’ve had a shower and you’re all dressed, grab your morning coffee and spend some time on your phone. You’ll be more awake and won’t procrastinate.
If you’re not already using an electric toothbrush, then go out and get one. Manual brushes are no longer the standard for a healthy mouth. Plaque builds quicker if you’re using a manual brush. And can lead to oral issues.
Depending on the make and model, you’ll experience more brush strokes per minute than you can think of. You are lucky if you get a few hundred brush strokes with a manual.
Most brushes are super smart too. They have timers, so you can see exactly how long you’re brushing for. Using a manual brush is totally a guessing game as to how long you’re doing it for.
Stop playing with it
You’ve got to stop it. It’s really not worth it. Having fun with yourself first thing in the morning can really affect your social anxiety. Porn and masturbation to kick off your day spikes dopamine levels in your brain. Which gives you that great feeling, and is no wonder you love doing it so much.
Now you’ve exposed your brain to such a high with little to no effort, you absolutely kill any motivation to go out to meet and socially interact with people. That social interaction is no match for the dopamine levels you can release with your hand.
As always, your brain is a lazy beast. It takes the path of least resistance and takes you along with it. Which means less motivation, negative thinking, and low mood for the rest of the day.
Avoid the hot shower
Sorry about this one. I’m sorry for myself as it used to be my favorite thing to do in the morning A hot or warm shower is so wonderful. However, it tells your lazy brain to just chill and relax.
A cold or cool shower is the best. Yup, it really sucks at first. But it will instantly trigger your adrenaline and give you a much-needed boost of energy. This is also a big challenge. Once you accomplish a cold shower at 7 am, then the rest of the challenges in the day seem like pocket fluff.
Coffee in the morning
A coffee first thing in the morning could be slightly ineffective for your day. Some studies have shown that drinking caffeine increases the stress hormone. And who wants to be stressed out in the morning before your day has started.
