J. Viewz, a multi-genre electronic project, directed by Brooklyn based producer and songwriter Jonathan Dagan, was named this week’s “World Café: Next" artist. David Dye (host) describes the new album Rivers and Homes as “a hard to define but totally beguiling work.”
This week J. Viewz was also featured by the Wall Street Journal, researching his previous successes in Europe, and his move from Israel to the U.S. in 2005 as part of his fight for motivation for this creative process. Also, they discuss the large amount of ground that Rivers and Homes covers.
"J. Viewz marries electronica, pop, and both indie and classic rock. The title track rings with the exuberance of Arcade Fire, but then gives way to the slow groove "Salty Air." … "Yet for all its varied influences, ‘Rivers and Homes’ is a cohesive work that showcases the talents of Israeli-born producer-composer Jonathan Dagan, 29, who programmed the tracks and played all guitars and keyboards." -Wall Street Journal.
Up until now, J. Viewz has released new songs, music videos, and remixes to fans without active promotion, yet with the way word travels these days the songs and videos surrounding Rivers and Homes have been viewed and listened to hundreds of thousands of times. In fact, the J. Viewz YouTube channel registers over 700,000 views on its own.
Rivers and Homes, originated as an idea the artist named as a “work in progress”. He began developing this idea back in the Spring of 2010. His plan was to make an album available for pre-order, and then record and release tracks gradually over a year to fans that subscribed. From early on J. Viewz’s quality output drew subscribers in, allowing the project to flourish. Each track was recorded and released in the same mindset in which it had been perceived, giving fans an intimate real time look at the evolution of the artist on this album. Once the album was completed, the artist distributed the album in physical form to his fans, and is just now making it available to the general public.
