Knots is the new single by Glaswegian band Olympic Swimmers. The track is off the band’s debut album No Flags Will Fly released earlier this summer. Knotsis set for release on the band’s own label Green White Violet 8th October 2012.
No Flags Will Fly was released to critical acclaim by the Scottish media, receiving great praise from the likes of The Herald, Scotsman, BBC etc A stand out track off the album, Knots is the first release by the band from the album, which was recorded and produced by Scottish producer Iain Cook. A breezy, summery, melodious track with lo-fi guitar riffs and lead singer Smillie’s vocals heavily reminding of the likes of Liz Frazer and Mazzy Star.
Olympic Swimmers formed back in 2009, with strong connections to The Delgados – two of the band play with Emma Pollock. Comprised of sister and brother Susie Smillie (vocals) and Simon Liddell (guitar) as well as Graeme Smillie (bass, keyboard, vocals), Jamie Savage (guitar, keyboard), Jonny Scott (drums, vocals). The band have recorded with Paul Savage in the past as well as supported the likes of Idlewild, Admiral Fallow on tour.
Vocalist Smillie explains the lyrics to Knots as referring to “the passage of time, the importance of memory as we age, the fear of losing memories of joyful times, of losing people that we love”. The single also includes a remix by highly tipped fellow Glaswegian producer Miaoux Miaoux.
Knots is set for release on the band’s own label Green White Violet 8th October 2012.
