The colder months require a little more thought that you might imagine when it comes to your style. Summer is easy as you can just pop on a t-shirt and jeans and you’re ready to walk out the door.

Most men probably don’t have seasonal clothes or have even thought about switching their wardrobe in the winter. So to help guide you in the right direction on what to avoid, here are a few things that every man shouldn’t be doing this winter.

No show socks

Showing ankles in the summer is fine, obviously, it looks cooler and feels cooler. You’re trying to keep as much heat in as possible so that you don’t have to wear tons of clothing. So now it’s the perfect time to make the most of your stylish socks.

Lots of mixed color and patterns

Flowery shirts and overly colorful outfits are a no go for the winter and look out of place. To keep your pattern vibe, it’s a good idea to look for a plaid shirt. This is a much better way to show off some extra fun on your upper half, rather than going wild with the colors.

A great addition to any outfit, however keeping trainers looking good overtime is extra hard if you’re wearing them throughout the winter months. They will deteriorate quicker and actually make you a little colder. There are some winter trainers that insulate a little more, but the best option is always, and always will be the boot.

Lightweight fabrics

Linen is a huge one to avoid. The fabric on this type of clothing is specifically designed for a reason. The light thread and fit are made to help you expel as much heat as possible and keep you cool. This is the exact thing you want to avoid as you want to keep as much heat in as possible.

Fabrics that do this are close-knits such as flannel, tweed, and heavy wool. This type of fabric should be number one on your search for your winter clothes.

This is pretty much common sense. You can obviously still wear only a t-shirt, but throw on a coat or a thick jumper. When looking for jumpers, make sure you’re getting a nicely fitted one with a t-shirt neckline that complements it.

Another obvious one here, even when you’re headed to the gym. There are tons of great trouser styles for your gym wear so there’s no need to put yourself through the unbearable cold and give yourself one more excuse to not go.
