About “Talk Me Down”
“I went through a patch of time where I was met with outlandish circumstances at every turn. Within the span of a few months I went through an intense breakup, got hit by a car which tore my ACL and required surgery and months of physical therapy, then developed chronic tonsil infections which kept me from singing or recording. I literally went to my doctor 14 times in 3 months and he finally said we had to take them out. So I had my second surgery in less than a year and had my tonsils removed. Days before my tonsillectomy my car was parked in an empty parking garage at 3AM and was hit doing more than $1,000 of damage. I had a studio that I was working out of – but the air conditioning didn’t work all summer so I couldn’t work on music there. It just seemed like I was hitting a wall no matter what I did. The only thing that kept me sane was being able to vent to my friends, which is where “Talk Me Down” comes from. When I finally was able to sing again and get back in my studio this was the first song that came out – just letting go of all the built up frustration that had been mounting and mounting.
Initially I was worried that this song would be too personal and unrelatable. I wrote it in December of 2019. There’s a line in the bridge that says, “Maybe next year I’ll put this to use.” Little did I know what 2020 had in store for all of us. I think just about everyone can relate to this song now.” – Ace Marino
