The world’s richest man has pledged $10bn (£7.7bn) to help fight climate change. The money will apparently go to finance work by activists and scientists. All done via his Instagram, good old Bezo said that he would begin distributing money this summer.

This is a pretty big move giving 8% of his net worth away. And you can look at it in a few ways. Until now he’s done a limited amount of giving to the world. That we know of obviously. So this big jump hopefully comes from a positive side, not just extra PR.

Whichever way you look at it, $10 billion a very considerable amount. And Amazon make a lot of cash, produce a lot of waste, so it’s a step in the right direction. On September 19, 2019, Amazon and Global Optimism announced The Climate Pledge, a commitment to meet the Paris Agreement 10 years early.

Amazon is the first signatory of this pledge. The Climate Pledge calls on signatories to be net zero carbon across their businesses by 2040—a decade ahead of the Paris Agreement’s goal of 2050.
