Atlanta based artist Baby Rose’s incredible voice has firmly positioned her as one of the most exciting young artists around. Today, she releases her new project, ‘To Myself (Deluxe)’, which features three brand new songs to close out a meteoric chapter for the beloved vocalist. Baby Rose recently performed her single ‘To Myself’ for NPR Tiny Desk and it appeared everywhere from Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in The World to a breakout spot on COLORs, as well as performing her breakout song ‘Show You’ on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Having toured with the likes of Snoh Aalegra, Ari Lennox and won fans ranging from James Blake, SZA and Kehlani to featuring on the Grammy-nominated Dreamville ‘Revenge of the Dreamers III’ album, Baby Rose sold-out her debut London show in Hoxton earlier this year and was set to play the Kendrick Lamar date at BST Hyde Park prior to its postponement.
It has nonetheless been a remarkable rise for Baby Rose, which in its own way has been a lifetime in the making. Born in Washington, DC, Rose grew up surrounded by music. Her father filled their home with acid jazz and funk, her mother managed a local rapper and her great aunt was a celebrated gospel singer. The sounds of Sam Cooke, Billie Holliday, Marvin Gaye and Janis Joplin lined the walls of her childhood and nurtured her unique voice. With her intense love for music growing day by day, she began playing the piano at the age of nine years old, combined with an affinity for poetry passed down from her aunts; soon Baby Rose began to craft her unmatched sound, which now blends blues, spoken poetry, R&B and soul. Baby Rose turned to music as her refuge from the bullying and alienation she experienced as a kid due to her constant moving, which now lines the highly personal and raw layers of her music. Her debut project, ‘To Myself’, chronicled Baby Rose’s coming of age, finding herself and exploring womanhood.
Baby Rose made her late night TV debut with an arresting performance of her breakout song ‘Show You’ on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Her latest single was on the huge HBO show ‘Insecure’, and its companion soundtrack that included a remix of her breakout song ‘Show You’ ft. Q. Baby Rose will be performing a special “socially distanced ”show at a secret location in Atlanta tonight (Friday 18th September). The intimate performance will also be live-streamed globally.
