Chiiild – Gone. An exclusive performance for Vevo DSCVR, the channel for the best in new music.
Stepping into the spotlight isn’t easy, especially when you’ve got a good thing going behind the scenes… as Yonatan Ayal once did. A few years ago the Quebec native’s skill at songwriting landed him in the sunny hills of Los Angeles, where gigs helping those who DO thrive center stage included penning and production for Chloe x Halle, J Lo and Jessie J. After honing his sound with his longtime Montreal pal Pierre Luc-Rioux, Yoni debuted his Chiiild project properly in 2020 with ‘Synthetic Soul,’ seven tracks of psych-R&B that struck a balance between familiar funkiness and futuristic atmosphere. With its minimal slap-pop bass line and reverb-drenched everything, “Pirouette” caught comparisons to Tame Impala and D’Angelo – cool names to be associated with for sure. Yoni says Chiiild’s forthcoming ‘Hope For Sale’ debut strives to communicate with his audience on an even deeper level than its predecessor. “If you read [the lyrics] all the way through [you can see] that it’s just a conversation. I’m saying how I feel to [someone] who’s sitting across from me.” Watching these DSCVR performances of “Gone” and “Pirouette” will prove he’s accomplished what he set out to do. It’s a 1:1 experience that feels pretty special.
