Kanye West and Yeezy designer Steven Smith recently discussed moving production to America, why Kanye might run for president in 2024, and then revealed a pair of prototype Yeezy shoes partially made from algae.
The new Yeezy will still be made from petroleum-based ethylene-vinyl acetate. It will then be mixed with foam made from harvested algae. It’s a great start for the line of shoes to become more sustainable compared to the waste produced from previous versions.
Algae is a much more renewable resource compared to petroleum, which means West is giving the fashion industry a nod towards a more sustainable future with this announcement. To put the potential impact into perspective, the first line of 9,000 Yeezy shoes sold out in 10 mins.
