Light + Sound Machine Wakaliwood Introduction Video
On June 30th, Light + Sound Machine, co-presented by Third Man Records and the Belcourt Theatre, screened Uganda’s 1st action movie: WHO KILLED CAPTAIN ALEX? (Trailer for that here: https://www.youtube.com/embed/t4GXdlxAFV0 )
Director Nabwana I.G.G. and the cast made this wonderful introduction video specially for us to screen before the film began, and when the film was over, we had a Light + Sound Machine first: we became part of the action! We shot footage of our screening audience getting blown up to send back to Uganda for Nabwana to use in a future Wakaliwood production! We also had a live skype with Nabwana and his family, which was a true treat.
THANK YOU TO YOU, NABWANA, AND TO YOUR WAKALIWOOD FAMILY!
More about WHO KILLED CAPTAIN ALEX? —-
Made for a mere $200, the first Ugandan action film is a riotous amalgamation of 80’s Hollywood actioneers and classic Asian Kung-Fu movies, filtered through the gritty no-holds-barred immediacy of Samuel Fuller. Having swept through urban Uganda upon it’s 2010 release, the film that announced the arrival of “Wakaliwood” cinema was recently remastered and released for a worldwide audience. Now it’s become a worldwide phenomenon, garnering generous praise from Vice Magazine and the BBC World Service.
