Part savvy lit-crit, part blues chart, part imagined interracial romance saga disguised as poems, Lucy Negro, Redux by Caroline Randall Williams explores themes of love, otherness, equality and beauty by invoking Shakespeare’s mysterious “Dark Lady.” Lucy Negro, Redux is not limited to the printed page though! Working in collaboration with Paul Vasterling, Artistic Director of Nashville Ballet, Williams’s poetry has been translated to the stage. Lucy Negro Redux the ballet premiers in Nashville on Friday, February 8th for a three-night run at TPAC’s Polk Theater and March 20-21 at the Big Ears Festival, Knoxville, Tennessee. The ballet features an original score by Grammy Award-winning artist and MacArthur Genius Grant recipient Rhiannon Giddens with poetry performed by Williams. Lucy Negro, Redux by Caroline Randall Williams will be available direct from Third Man Books 2/8/19 and in bookstores everywhere 2/19/19.
