Alt-pop adventurer LVRA has picked up serious momentum in recent months, leading the Edinburgh-based musician to win the inaugural Sound of Young Scotland honour at the recent SAY Awards. Today she continues to demonstrate her world class potential as she shares the new single ‘IN YOUR BLOOD’.
A tense, nervous, panic-attack of a track, ‘IN YOUR BLOOD’ finds LVRA relentlessly raising the tension as her versatile vocal darts around a maelstrom of skittish beats, sinister synths and claustrophobic lyrical imagery. Once again self-written and produced by LVRA and mixed by Brendan Cox (Hannah Diamond, Imogen Heap) ‘IN YOUR BLOOD’ forges its own inimitable sonic vision by calling on elements of hyperpop, hip-hop and industrial.
LVRA says, “I think this song feels like taking a shot of adrenaline. At some point when we are so far into our animal selves we become lethal creatures. Sometimes in a club I feel like it’s fight or flight that moves my body, as if I’m possessed. It’s the only time apart from sleep when I can switch off. I want people to feel that shit when they listen to my music.”
‘IN YOUR BLOOD’ is a powerful progression from LVRA’s recent second EP ‘TWO’ which earned the 21-year old producer and vocalist fresh acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic with tastemaker airplay from Radio 1 and BBC Introducing, plus her first major festival sets at Reading and Leeds.
LVRA won the Sound of Young Scotland Award from a strong field of contenders which highlights a new wave of emerging talent from the nation. One of three big winners on the night – the others being Mogwai and Frightened Rabbit – LVRA performed her recent single ‘MONEY AND POWER’ at the ceremony before also taking to the stage with Nova. In addition to the bespoke art prize, LVRA will also receive up to £5000 funding towards the recording and production of their debut album, as well as 500 vinyl pressings of the finished record. The ceremony was subsequently broadcast on BBC Scotland.
Next on the agenda is a live performance at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards, which will be held at St. Luke’s in Glasgow on November 27th. LVRA is featured on a line-up alongside Union of Knives and TAAHLIAH. Further ahead, LVRA is confirmed for Glasgow’s huge Colourboxx festival at Bellahouston Park on June 25th. The killer bill includes Years & Years, Becky Hill, Joesef, Rina Sawayama and many more.
