An article has been posted recently on Bloomberg that suggests that some of China’s bigger food manufacturers are looking at vegan eggs as protein sources. In particular, they’re said to be in talks with San Francisco food manufacturing company, JUST, the producer of the vegan JUST Egg.

The article also highlights a theory that a possible source of the deadly outbreak is due to wet markets, where freshly slaughtered, unpackaged meat is sold. Even before this outbreak, China is said to have been suffering from protein shortages caused by the spread of African swine fever.

Plant-based protein is on the rise worldwide, with JUST, Impossible Foods, and Beyond Meat experiencing massive growth in such a short time. It’s just a shame that it takes a catastrophe to highlight that eating animal products might not be the best for our future.
